Beautiful historic building with good amenities (reading room, wifi, large DVD selection, excellent kids library).
I spend a majority of my Saturday morning's here thanks to the computer and tech classes held through the Chester County Library system. I have amassed a wealth of information as well as brushing up on some skills that I had not utilized in quite some time. The staff is always pleasant and helpful whenever I have questions. I usually take classes with Mr Ernie Tidball, whose teaching methods are easy to understand for those who are not computer/tech savvy. Highly recommend for anyone looking to expand their knowledge or just refresh themselves with the tech world.
The upstairs reading room is gorgeous. There are quite a few nooks that are perfect for "get s*** done" mode.
I love this historic library, and have found the staff to be friendly and helpful, but my experience with applying for a passport was disappointing at best. I'm not sure if Karen is a library employee, or a government employee, but she should not be dealing with the public. I have a job where I have to be polite, caring, and friendly, even if I'm having a bad day. Apparently, Karen is not required to be any of those things. I would think that she didn't like something about me, but a co-worker took her family to the library for their passports, and encountered the same kind of unfriendly, condescending attitude. She also eats on the job, which seems so inappropriate. She crunched and slurped her apple as she barked instructions to me. She also charged me for copying my driver's license, but I was told on the phone to have it copied before I arrived. She never asked for it, but then tried to make it my fault by saying that I didn't tell her that I had it. She asked for everything else, so why not that? No one deserves that kind of attitude from someone who is providing a service. I hear that the post offices are friendly, and do a nice job. Save yourself the frustration, and give them a try, or call and see if anyone else handles passports at the library.
It is quiet, has many books, including a teen center and a kids area. They have a small computer lab and free WiFi. Though there is a bell that does ring at random and can disrupt focus. But it isn't to bad. It is a great place to go and enjoy a quiet meaningful reading and relaxing moment.
